Violence in Pakistan's troubled largest city, Karachi, claimed 15 more lives Sunday and 40 over the weekend, authorities said.
Sindh provincial authorities have renewed a ban on motorcycle riding since so many murders have been carried out by men who sped off, The Express Tribune reported.
Police reported shootings in several districts of the vast port city of 18 million, with 42 victims wounded in addition to the 30 killed over three days.
GEO News reported pitched battles between armed groups in several neighborhoods.
Provincial police official Wajid Durrani said 17 assassins have been arrested and the police can handle the situation without army intervention. He blamed land speculators for pitting ethnic groups against each other.
Karachi has long suffered from armed conflict between the Muttahida Quami Movement, backed by the Urdu-speaking community, and the Pashtun-dominated Awami National Party. The latest outbreak, however, began with clashes between two MQM factions.
