Crude oil slips over weekend

Crude oil prices were down nearly $99 a barrel in New York by the end of the day Monday, a drop of nearly $1 since last week.

West Texas Intermediate crude was at $99.20 per barrel as prices appear to have found a new plateau near $100.

Investors are increasingly focused on the debt ceiling debate in Washington, where negotiations have stalled. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, walked out on the negotiations Friday, intensifying speculation the United States could go into default.

Home heating oil Monday shed 0.48 cents to $3.103 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline prices lost 2.67 cents to $3.1034 per gallon.

Henry Hub natural gas prices gave up 2.5 cents to $4.361 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the national average price of unleaded gasoline dropped slightly to $3.694 per gallon from Sunday's $3.696, AAA said.
