Colombian politician killed after bombing

A Colombian politician was killed in a suspected political assassination just a day after a bomb exploded in the same town, killing three people, police said.

Carlos Banguerro, a Liberal party council candidate, and a government health official accompanying him were pulled from their vehicle in Toribio Sunday and shot to death, El Espectador reported.

Police said no valuables were taken, raising suspicions the attack was a political assassination. No suspects have been identified.

The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, better know by its Spanish acronym FARC, was blamed for a bombing in Toribio Saturday. The blast killed three people and injured 70 others.

Twenty political candidates for the upcoming local and regional elections in October have been killed and more than 30 have received death threats.
