Family speaks about roller rink shooting

The patriarch of the family destroyed by a mass shooting at a Grand Prairie, Texas, roller rink came to tears while recounting the tragic events.

At a news conference at an Arlington funeral home Tuesday, Hoi Ta was joined by one of his remaining sons, a son-in-law who lost his wife and another relative to discuss what happened the night of the massacre, The Dallas Morning News reported.

"Nobody can foresee what happened," Ta said through a translator. "However, there were symptoms pointing toward a potential terrible situation."

Ta lost four children and a daughter-in-law when Tan Do, his son-in-law, opened fire at his son's 11th birthday party at a roller rink. Ta, his wife and their 19-year-old son were also injured. Do then killed himself. Ta's wife and son are still hospitalized.

Party-goers described Tan Do's behavior as quiet and remote that night, which was not unusual for him.

Family members said Do and his wife, Trini, Ta's daughter, had been arguing the night before the shooting. Trini Do had previously filed for divorce and requested a restraining order against her husband, but ultimately returned to him.

"I knew my sister was afraid her husband might go crazy like this," said Trung Ta, who was not present for the party.
