Hillary Clinton's mother dies at age 92

Dorothy H. Rodham, 92, mother of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, died Tuesday in Washington, surrounded by family, a Clinton family statement said.
"Her story was a quintessentially American one, largely because she wrote it herself," the statement read. "She overcame abandonment and hardship as a young girl to become the remarkable woman she was -- a warm, generous and strong woman; an intellectual; a woman who told a great joke and always got the joke; an extraordinary friend and, most of all, a loving wife, mother and grandmother."
Several media outlets reported the State Department announced Monday Clinton canceled a trip to Britain and Turkey because of her mother's health.
The statement issued by the William J. Clinton Foundation did not mention Rodham's illness.
Rodham's family will conduct a "private celebration of her life" for family and friends, the Clinton statement said.
Rodham was born in Chicago June 4, 1919.
Besides daughter Hillary and son-in-law and former President Bill Clinton, Rodham is survived by two sons and their spouses and several grandchildren.Read more:
